Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise visited Asha’s in Newhall Street, Birmingham, to enjoy some Indian food on August 22, 2021.

He dined at the restaurant while taking a break from shooting Mission: Impossible 7.

Tom Cruise reportedly spent two hours at the restaurant with five others before leaving a generous £60 tip.

He has been spotted several times in Birmingham’s Grand Central shopping centre as he films scenes for the newest instalment of the popular action franchise.

The restaurant was only told hours before that Tom was going to be coming in.

Upon his arrival at the restaurant, Tom insisted he should not be treated differently to anybody else.

The group were even happy to sit on a table in the middle of the restaurant.

Their meal was so subtle that not every diner recognised him or was aware they were eating so close to the Hollywood star.

Asha’s general manager Nouman Farooqui said:

“Tom arrived at 6 pm and the picture was taken on my folding Samsung phone by one of his security team at 8:10 pm as he was leaving.

“When he came he said he didn’t want any fuss and just wanted to be part of the atmosphere.

“He wanted a meal just like any other guest and simply wanted to enjoy an authentic Indian meal.

“A few diners recognised him but not all. Nobody made a fuss, though when he left people went a little bit crazy.

“He agreed to have his picture taken outside in a socially distanced way and had his mask on for the first picture.

“He then took his mask off and said: ‘Take another one’.”

Nouman Farooqui was left delighted when the actor enjoyed his chicken tikka masala so much that he ordered a second portion.

He continued:

“Tom asked for it to be served with extra spices and he really liked it.”

“Once he’d finished it he ordered a second portion.

“He wasn’t drinking alcohol so it was all washed down with ‘Birmingham’ water (from Wales) which is my favourite in the whole country, nowhere else tastes as good.”

Fans took to social media to comment on Asha’s famous diner.

One said: “They don’t call him Tommy Two Tikkas for nothing!”

Another commented: “I’ve eaten at Asha’s many times but never when Tom Cruise has been in town.”

Nouman added that Tom Cruise’s visit to Asha’s could boost the entire hospitality sector.

He said: “We are looking to expand, so the fact that Tom came to see us, really enjoyed himself and said he would love to come back, can only take us to another level.

“He said he loved the ambience, the atmosphere and the food.

“That can only be good for the whole hospitality sector in these times so we thank him for letting us take his photograph.”
